Agave Sweetened Strawberry Jam

DSC01711

We finally have red strawberrys here in the northwest. I bought a flat and a half and made some strawberry jam. Greg bought some blackberry jam this winter that was sweetend with agave syrup it was $9.00 for a small jar. (see why I don't send him to the store) I decided to make some myself for a fraction of the cost and just a little time on my part. If you use Pomonas Pectin and add 3/4 of a cup of agave for the sugar portion of the recipe it turns out great! Very little sugar lots of yummy fruit for everyone.

Sewing Camp

S1_Day1_collage

My kids are taking a fabulous sewing camp this summer, they are learning how to do all kinds of cool things that I would love to learn.  The camp is taught by this wonderful woman, Michelle Freedman, she seems to have the patience of Job.  I love to sew, but I don't love to teach my children to sew.  It's the sad truth.  They are doing a lot of repurposing of all kinds of things that she bought at the Goodwill bins.  Piper made a skirt out of a pillow case and another skirt out of some shorts and a t-shirt. Strider made a whole bunch of different bags and back packs.  I will post pictures at the end of the week.

M.I.A.

Hi Everyone! I have been away for quite some time and want you to know that I am back. I was working on a long and exhausting movie. I wanted to write all about it, but teenage vampire movies tend to breed lots of garbage so I thought I would spare you the details.

I am back home with my little chickens and my cute husband and can get back to business.

Tip of the day (#3)

CLAM OPENER

After slicing his finger while attempting to open anti-theft clamshell packagaing, Karthic Chidambaranathan of Austin, Tx, Came up with a safer idea: Use a double-edged can opener to cleanly cut around the edges and free the contents without damaging your digits.

I found this in on page 32 of Ready Made current issue. I hope you enjoy this tip for a most frustrating situation.

My view of Greg from my desk

Look, Greg is all grown up. He has serious man face. I find it disturbing that he looks surprisingly like the Andre the Giant sticker on the back of his computer.

Vignette #2

The lone Barbie shoe. This tiny Barbie shoe sits atop a painting of a boy wearing a dunce cap that declares him a Dumbass. It was painted by our friend Sarah Fagan.

My daughter declared one day, "Mommy Barbie's are not good for the earth". She has clearly been brain washed by the other Waldorf kids. Although right now she is watching Pokemon on a 60" TV, shh don't tell.

Estate Sale Finds on the west side

You know spring is in the air when the Oregonian Classifieds start filling up with Estate Sales. I usually start going this time each year and quit about June. I can't deal with all the pushy Estate Salers out there. This weekend I ventured out to the west side of Portland and found these great little items.

The Chair is a 1965 Eames Chair made by Herman Miller It is in perfect shape. I have several of these but none in this good of shape. For now I am using it as an extra chair in my living room.

I got the thread holder for Piper to start with on her sewing projects. She has already started filling it up. I will keep you up to date on her work.

I have finally started knitting so I thought I would pick up these needles while at this wonderful Estate sale. They were a steal at .25 cents a piece. This lady had buckets of crafty stuff. I picked up this great cross stitch book full of transfers. They have never been used and are in great shape. I love to stitch onto Pipers dresses.

Last, the gal that lived in this house did loads of stitchery. The walls were covered with her work, I thought I would get a couple of the small pieces to hang in my kitchen. It made me sad that they would just end up at the Good Will.
Going to Estate Sales is bitter sweet for me. I always look for the sales with sewing and crafts in the headlines, I get so excited and act like some kind of freak vulture. Then when I go I am so sad that all this great stuff is left over from all the work they did with love.

Bacon Doughnut

Dsc01580
I worked on a Nike job the other day and Bernadette showed up with Doughnuts from Voodoo Doughnuts. The Bacon Maple Doughnut was the highlight for me. Of course,I was working with athletes all day so I had to show some restraint and I split it with Joel and Fro. This is the ultimate in breakfast luxury. The production team from Boston thought we were silly.

Crafty Wonderland

I went to Crafty Wonderland today with Strider and Korinne's little guy Isaac. We had a blast. They have this great free craft table sponsered by DIY lounge. The kids made these super cute little candy boxes made out of covered match boxes and then filled them with heart candy. Strider is giving his to Piper. Isaac is giving his to himself and maybe his mommy.

While I was there I bought a print from this wonderful photographer Elizabeth Soule. I can't show you the print that I bought, it's Greg's Valentines gift, if by chance, he reads this I don't want him to get a jump start on next Thursday.
